Pangolin Rescue Center
Help us protect pangolins — the world’s most trafficked mammals — through rescue, rehabilitation, and release.
What are pangolins?
If you’ve never heard of a pangolin, you’re not alone. These shy, nocturnal mammals are covered in protective keratin scales — the same material as human fingernails — and curl into a ball when they feel threatened. About the size of a house cat or small dog, pangolins live quietly in forests and grasslands, feeding on ants and termites with their long, sticky tongues.
Sadly, their gentle nature has made them easy targets. Pangolins are now the world’s most trafficked mammals, with over one million taken from the wild in the past decade. They are hunted for their meat and scales, which are falsely believed to have medicinal properties. In Uganda and across Africa, pangolins are rapidly disappearing — but with rescue efforts, education, and stronger protection, there is still hope. Every rescued pangolin we rehabilitate brings us one step closer to saving the species from extinction.

Our Mission
Every year, hundreds of pangolins are rescued from illegal wildlife trafficking in Uganda. At Pangolin Rescue Uganda, our mission is to give them a second chance — through rehabilitation, protection, and education.
We rescue pangolins from the black market, poachers, and bush meat hunters. We treat their injuries and safely reintroduce them back into the wild. Each animal represents hope for an entire species on the brink of extinction.
