8-Day Kenya Safari Adventure: Samburu, Ol Pejeta & Lake Nakuru

Day 1 – Samburu National Reserve
  • In the morning, depart Nairobi for a scenic drive north to Samburu National Reserve (approx. 6 hours). Along the way, watch the landscapes change from fertile highlands and coffee plantations to the dramatic, semi-arid terrain of northern Kenya.

  • In the afternoon, arrive at your lodge, check in, and take time to relax after the journey, soaking in your first views of Samburu’s rugged beauty.

  • In the evening, if time allows, head out on a short game drive to spot elephants or even a leopard at dusk before returning for dinner.
Day 2 - Samburu: Wildlife & Culture
  • In the morning, set out on a game drive through Samburu, searching for the rare “Special Five”: Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, gerenuk, and Somali ostrich, along with lions and leopards.
  • Late morning to midday, visit a Samburu village for a cultural experience, where you’ll learn about the community’s traditions, lifestyle, and resilience.
  • In the afternoon, return to the reserve for another game drive, giving you more chances to spot both the unique species and the big cats that thrive in this rugged landscape.
Day 3 – Reteti Elephant Sanctuary
  • In the morning, after breakfast, drive to the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary (approx. 1–2 hours), a pioneering community-run project focused on rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned elephants. Enjoy watching feeding sessions and learn about the incredible conservation work that helps these gentle giants thrive.

  • In the early evening, return to your lodge in Samburu and take time to relax, soaking in the views of the surrounding landscape or enjoying lodge amenities. The rest of the day is at leisure, giving you a peaceful pause between adventures.
Day 4 – Ol Pejeta Conservancy
  • In the morning, after breakfast, depart Samburu and drive south to Ol Pejeta Conservancy (approx. 3–4 hours), passing through Kenya’s stunning landscapes as you leave the semi-arid north behind.

  • In the afternoon, arrive at the conservancy in time for lunch, then head out on an afternoon game drive to explore its rich wildlife, including rhinos, lions, elephants, and the unique chimpanzee sanctuary.

  • In the evening, return to your lodge to relax and enjoy dinner.
Day 5 – Full day Ol Pejeta Exploration
In the morning, enjoy an early game drive in Ol Pejeta Conservancy, home to East Africa’s largest black rhino sanctuary and the last two northern white rhinos in the world. Spot elephants, lions, and other members of the Big Five as the sun rises over the expansive savannah.
Late morning to midday, visit the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, a safe haven for rescued primates, and learn about the vital conservation work taking place here.
In the afternoon, continue exploring the conservancy on another game drive, then return to your lodge to relax and enjoy dinner, reflecting on a day filled with unforgettable wildlife encounters.
Day 6 – Lake Nakuru Natioanl Park
In the morning, after breakfast, depart Ol Pejeta and drive south toward Lake Nakuru National Park (approx. 4 hours), passing through the breathtaking landscapes of the Great Rift Valley with sweeping views of escarpments and valleys.
In the afternoon, arrive at your lodge near Lake Nakuru, settle in, and enjoy some leisure time to relax or take in the scenery.
In the evening, if time allows, head out on a short game drive to catch your first glimpses of flamingos along the lake or rhinos grazing in the park, before returning for dinner and overnight near Nakuru.
Day 7 - full-day game drive in Lake Nakuru
In the morning, set out on a full-day game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park, home to impressive wildlife including white and black rhinos, Rothschild giraffes, and abundant birdlife like flamingos and pelicans. Around midday, enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park, surrounded by the stunning scenery of the Great Rift Valley and the shimmering lake. In the afternoon, continue your safari, keeping a lookout for leopards often spotted resting in acacia trees, before returning to your lodge near Nakuru for dinner and overnight.
Day 8 - Lake Naivasha and drop-off in Nairobi
  • In the morning, after breakfast, drive to Lake Naivasha (approx. 1–2 hours) and embark on a relaxing boat safari. Spot hippos wallowing in the water, colorful waterbirds, and wildlife grazing along the shoreline. In the afternoon, continue your journey back to Nairobi (approx. 2 hours). Your safari concludes with drop-off at your hotel or the airport, marking the end of an unforgettable Kenyan adventure.
