3-Day Gorilla Trekking from Rwanda
Day 1 - Kigali City Tour & Drive to Lake Mutanda
- Your journey begins with a pickup from your hotel or Kigali International Airport by your private guide. Travel comfortably in a well-equipped safari vehicle.
- Start the day with a guided Kigali city tour, including a moving visit to the Genocide Memorial, vibrant local craft markets, and other cultural landmarks that offer insight into Rwanda’s deep history and resilient spirit.
- After the city tour, depart for Lake Mutanda in southwestern Uganda, a scenic drive through Rwanda’s beautiful countryside and across the border. Along the way, take in panoramic views of the Virunga Volcanoes and the lush, rolling hills that define the region.
- Driving Time: 3-4 hours
Day 2 - Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi
- Today you’ll trek in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. After a short briefing, set off with your guide into the forest to track one of the habituated gorilla families. Once located, you’ll spend one unforgettable hour observing them up close — playing, moving through the trees, and interacting with each other in their natural environment. This is the highlight of any trip to Uganda and an experience that leaves a lasting impression.
- After the trek, journey back to Lake Mutanda.
- Driving Time: 30 min
Day 3: Lake Mutanda Exploration and Return to Kigali
- Begin your day at the stunning Lake Mutanda, a peaceful volcanic lake nestled in the foothills of the Virunga Mountains. Surrounded by dramatic landscapes, terraced hills, and small islands, this lake offers a tranquil atmosphere and breathtaking views.
- For those with time before departure, an optional canoe trek (available at an additional cost) provides a serene and intimate way to explore the lake’s beauty—an ideal moment to reflect on your journey through Rwanda.
- After your lake experience, set off on a scenic drive back to Kigali, winding through rolling hills and rural villages. Arrive in the late afternoon or early evening, with drop-off at your hotel or the airport, depending on your travel plans.
- Driving Time: 3-4 hours
