12-Day Kenya Masai Mara, Uganda Gorilla Trekking & Rwanda

Day 1 – Drive to Masai Mara National Reserve – Visit a Maasai VillagE
  • Your journey begins with a pickup from your hotel or the airport by your private guide.
  • You'll drive through the Great Rift Valley as you make your way to the world-famous Masai Mara. Before checking into your lodge or camp, visit a traditional Maasai village (Manyatta). This cultural experience offers a glimpse into the rich traditions, dress, and daily life of the Maasai people. You'll witness traditional dances, learn about their customs, and explore their hand-built homes. It’s a fascinating introduction to the land you’re about to explore.
Day 2 - Full-Day Game Drive in Masai Mara National Reserve
  • After an early breakfast, you'll set off on a full-day game drive inside the Masai Mara National Reserve. This park is one of Africa’s best safari destinations, known for its incredible density of wildlife and rolling savannah landscapes.
  • Expect to encounter lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, and leopards. You’ll also have a chance to see cheetahs hunting on the open plains and hippos wallowing in the Mara River. Depending on the season, you may even witness the Great Migration. Lunch will be served picnic-style in the bush, before continuing your wildlife adventure into the afternoon.
Day 3 – Second Full-Day Inside Masai Mara National Reserve
  • Your second day in the Masai Mara gives you another chance to explore new areas of the reserve and deepen your wildlife sightings. You'll head out at dawn for optimal viewing and follow fresh tracks with your guide, possibly catching dramatic predator-prey interactions in the golden morning light.
  • After lunch, you’ll return to the lodge or enjoy a picnic in the wild, then spend your afternoon exploring the reserve’s quieter corners. As the day cools and the animals begin to stir again, you’ll pause at a scenic viewpoint for a classic African sundowner—watching the sky blaze with color as you sip a drink and take in the magic of the Mara..
Day 4 – Lake Nakuru National Park – Afternoon Game Drive
  • After breakfast, you'll depart the Masai Mara and enjoy a scenic drive north toward Lake Nakuru National Park. You’ll pass through small towns and beautiful highland landscapes as you make your way into the Great Rift Valley once again.
  • You'll arrive at Lake Nakuru in the late afternoon and head straight into the park for an afternoon game drive. Known for its flamingos, endangered white rhinos, and lions, Nakuru offers a very different safari environment. Watch the sun begin to set over the lake as you check into your lodge or camp for the night.
Day 5 – Morning boat on Lake Naivasha and flight to Uganda
After your breakfast, you'll drive to nearby Lake Naivasha, where you'll take a boat ride across the freshwater lake. You'll glide past pods of hippos and watch fish eagles hunt overhead — a peaceful contrast to the savannah adventures. From here, you'll begin your final drive back to Nairobi, arriving in time for your short flight to Uganda. Once you land, you will be taken to your hotel for dinner and rest before your Uganda adventure begins.
Day 6 – Drive to Kibale National Park
After breakfast, you'll depart for western Uganda, enjoying a scenic drive through lush countryside, rolling tea plantations, and lively local villages. The changing landscapes give you a deeper sense of Uganda’s beauty and rhythm of life. You'll arrive near Kibale Forest National Park in the afternoon and check into your lodge, set amidst beautiful forested surroundings. You can choose to relax and enjoy the peaceful environment, or opt for an optional crater lake walk — a guided nature walk offering panoramic views of ancient volcanic lakes and rural homesteads. The evening is yours to unwind in nature’s quiet.
Day 7 - Authentic Kibale Experience
  • You'll start your day by choosing one of several enriching experiences around Kibale:
  • - You'll visit a local vanilla plantation —learn how vanilla is grown, harvested, and cured in one of Uganda’s key agricultural regions.
  • - Guided walk through Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary —this community-run project offers more than just nature. You'll discover traditional coffee-making, medicinal plants, local crafts, and how banana beer and gin are brewed.
  • - You'll hike to the nearby crater lakes —enjoy a scenic walk through lush terrain leading to serene volcanic lakes, with panoramic views that are worth every step.
  • After your chosen activity, you'll have lunch before continuing your journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Day 8 - Game Drive & Kazinga Channel Boat Safari
  • You'll start your morning with a drive through Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda’s top wildlife destinations. The park is known for its rich variety of animals, including lions, elephants, buffalo, and leopards. In the afternoon, you'll set off on a boat safari along the Kazinga Channel, home to one of the world’s largest hippo populations. You’ll glide past massive pods of hippos, crocodiles basking on the banks, and large herds of elephants and buffalo coming to drink. Few places in Africa offer such consistent and close-up encounters with wildlife.
Day 9 - Chimpanzee Trekking and Bwindi Forest
This morning, you’ll start with chimpanzee trekking in Kalinzu Forest, a scenic reserve known for its wild chimpanzee population. With the help of experienced local guides, you’ll track a chimp group. Once found, you'll spend up to one hour observing their behavior in the wild. It's a raw, unfiltered wildlife experience that gives real insight into how these primates live.
After embarking on a scenic drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You'll enjoy the breathtaking views of rolling hills, lush forests, and rural villages along the way.
Day 10 - Gorilla Trekking at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
  • Today, you’ll trek in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. After a short briefing, you'll set off with your guide into the forest to track one of the habituated gorilla families. Once located, you’ll spend one unforgettable hour observing them up close — playing, moving through the trees, and interacting with each other in their natural environment.
  • This is the highlight of any trip to Uganda and an experience that leaves a lasting impression.
  • After the trek, you will continue your adventure to Lake Mutanda.
Day 11 - Exploring Lake Mutanda by Boat
Lake Mutanda, a serene jewel in southwestern Uganda, lies in the shadow of the Virunga volcanoes and is often described as one of Africa’s most beautiful hidden lakes. This morning, you'll set out on a canoe or boat ride across its sparkling waters, passing small islands and enjoying breathtaking views of the mist-covered peaks on the horizon. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to spot waterbirds and observe daily life as locals paddle past in traditional dugout canoes.After your lake adventure, you'll continue your journey toward Rwanda. Keep an eye out for wildlife roaming outside the park boundaries and the striking Ankole cattle with their sweeping horns. You’ll arrive at your lodge in time to unwind and prepare for tomorrow’s discoveries.
Day 12 - Golden Monkey Trekking or Dian Fossey Hike
  • Today’s adventure offers two unforgettable experiences in Volcanoes National Park. You can choose to track the vibrant and energetic golden monkeys, known for their striking orange-gold coats and playful nature. Found only in a few places in the world, these rare primates leap through the lush greenery of the Virunga Mountains in large, lively troops—making for an incredible sight and a dream for photographers and wildlife lovers alike. Alternatively, you may opt for a hike to the Dian Fossey Tomb, a powerful and moving journey through the forest to the resting place of the legendary primatologist. Along the way, you'll learn about her tireless work to protect mountain gorillas and the legacy she left behind in these misty mountains. Afterwards, you'll begin your drive to Kigali, where your guide will drop you off at the airport or at your selected hotel, wrapping up your unforgettable adventure.
