10-Day Uganda Safari Adventure: Gorillas, Chimps, & Big 5 Safari

Day 1 – Walking with Rhinos and Top of the Waterfall
  • Start your journey with a warm welcome at the airport, where your private guide will greet you and begin the adventure. Travel in comfort in a private Land Cruiser as you head to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, home to one of Africa’s most successful conservation efforts.
  • Here, you’ll take part in a rare and unforgettable experience: tracking rhinos on foot. This guided walking trek, led by expert rangers, is the only opportunity in Uganda to see wild rhinos up close in their natural habitat.

  • After the trek, continue your journey north toward Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and oldest protected area. Before heading to the lodge, make a stop at the top of Murchison Falls — the world’s most powerful waterfall. It’s a breathtaking sight and the perfect welcome to the park!

  • Driving Time: 6-7 hours
Day 2 – Safari and Nile Adventure in Murchison Falls NP
  • Start your day with a morning game drive as we search for the rest of the Big Five — lions, leopards, elephants, and buffaloes. Wildlife is very diverse here, with good chances of spotting giraffes, Uganda kobs, Jackson’s hartebeest, hyenas, and warthogs.
  • In the afternoon, embark on a boat safari along the Nile, the longest river in the world, heading upstream to the base of Murchison Falls — the most powerful waterfall on the planet. Watch as the entire Nile squeezes through a narrow 7-meter-wide gorge before crashing 43 meters down with incredible force. Along the way, enjoy excellent wildlife viewing, spotting hippos, Nile crocodiles, and elephants along the riverbanks.

  • Driving Time: N/A
Day 3 – Scenic Drive to the Forests of Kibale
  • Start the day with a final drive through Murchison Falls National Park. The early morning hours offer some of the best chances to spot wildlife like hyenas and other elusive animals, so keep your eyes (and camera) ready.

  • From there, head south toward Kibale Forest, with the scenery shifting dramatically along the way. The open savannah gradually gives way to vibrant green hills and lush tea plantations, painting a picture of Uganda’s diverse beauty.
  • Check in at your lodge and relax in the peaceful surroundings.

  • Driving Time: 5-6 hours
Day 4 – Kibale Adventure
  • Start your day by choosing one of several enriching experiences around Kibale:
  • - Visit a local vanilla plantation – learn how vanilla is grown, harvested, and cured in one of Uganda’s key agricultural regions.
  • - Guided walk through Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary – this community-run project offers more than just nature. Discover traditional coffee-making, medicinal plants, local crafts, and how banana beer and gin are brewed.
  • - Hike to the nearby crater lakes – enjoy a scenic walk through lush terrain leading to serene volcanic lakes, with panoramic views that are worth every step.

  • After your chosen activity, continue your journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park, where the landscape opens up into wide savannahs and rich wetlands teeming with wildlife. This scenic drive takes you through the heart of western Uganda, with the promise of new encounters awaiting in the park.. Driving Time: 1-2 hours
Day 5 – Safari Game Drive & Kazinga Boat Safari
Wake up early for an exhilarating morning game drive through Queen Elizabeth National Park. As the sun rises, watch the savannah come alive with elephants, buffaloes, and antelopes grazing in the golden light. The thrill of possibly encountering lions or leopards adds an element of anticipation, making this safari a truly unforgettable experience.
After lunch, embark on a scenic boat safari along the Kazinga Channel, one of Uganda's premier wildlife viewing destinations. Glide through the water, witnessing massive pods of hippos, Nile crocodiles basking on the shores, and a stunning variety of birdlife, from majestic African fish eagles to playful kingfishers. Elephants and buffaloes often gather at the water’s edge, providing fantastic opportunities for close-up photography. Driving Time: N/A
Day 6 – Chimpanzee Trekking and Bwindi Forest
This morning, you’ll start with chimpanzee trekking in Kalinzu Forest, a scenic reserve known for its wild chimpanzee population. With the help of experienced local guides, you’ll track a chimp group and, once found, spend up to one hour observing their behavior in the wild. It's a raw, unfiltered wildlife experience that gives real insight into how these primates live. After embark on a scenic drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Enjoy the breathtaking views of rolling hills, lush forests, and rural villages along the way. Driving Time: 5 hours
Day 7 - Gorilla Trekking at Bwindi Forest
  • Today you’ll trek in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. After a short briefing, set off with your guide into the forest to track one of the habituated gorilla families. Once located, you’ll spend one unforgettable hour observing them up close — playing, moving through the trees, and interacting with each other in their natural environment. This is the highlight of any trip to Uganda and an experience that leaves a lasting impression.
  • After the trek, continue your adventure to Lake Bunyonyi.

  • Drive Time: 1-2 hours
Day 8 - Islands of Lake Bunyonyi
  • Lake Bunyonyi, often called the “Switzerland of Africa,” is surrounded by misty hills and dotted with 29 small islands, each with its own story. This morning, you'll embark on a boat adventure to explore some of these islands, taking in the stunning scenery and getting a glimpse of local life along the lakeshore.
  • After the boat trip, begin your journey toward the area near Lake Mburo. As you travel, keep an eye out for some of the park’s wildlife, which occasionally wanders beyond its boundaries, as well as flocks of Uganda’s famous Ankole cows with their impressive horns. You'll arrive at your lodge in time to relax and prepare for tomorrow's exploration.
  • Drive Time: 3-4 hours
Day 9 - walking safari at Lake Mburo National Park
Start your day with a walking safari — an exciting and different way to explore the park. Being on foot lets you get much closer to the wildlife, whether it's a group of zebras grazing nearby or a tower of giraffes moving through the trees. With a ranger guiding you, it's a thrilling way to see wildlife in their natural environment. After the walk, you'll begin the drive back to Entebbe. Along the way, stop at the Equator for photos and a chance to pick up some local crafts. You’re expected to arrive in Entebbe by early evening. Drive Time: 4-5 hours
Day 10 - Touch of Dinosaurs
  • Begin your final day in Uganda with a morning boat trip on Lake Victoria — the largest lake in Africa. You'll head out as the sun rises, passing early-morning fishermen before reaching the Mabamba Swamps, one of the best places in the world to see the elusive shoebills. From here, you'll switch to a traditional canoe and glide deeper into the swamp channels. Spotting a shoebill in the wild is a special moment — this rare bird, with its massive beak and prehistoric look, is often described as “something out of the dinosaur age.”
  • After the excursion, return to Entebbe by early afternoon. Depending on your flight time, enjoy some rest or prepare for your departure.
